World Standards Day 2020 – BBSQ National Message

Join BBSQ as we celebrate World Standards Day 2020, under the theme: Protecting The Planet With Standards. To reduce the human impact on our planet, standards are required to addresses concerns with food safety, water quality and other areas that impact our health and safety. Standards ensure protocols and procedures are in place to help reduce the environmental impact of manufacturing products and processes, facilitate the reuse of limited resources and improve energy efficiency.

BBSQ develops national standards to protect ourselves and our future. In line with this mission, BBSQ is proud to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Underwriters Laboratories (UL) September 30, 2020. UL is accredited in the United States and Canada and has been advancing safety science since 1894. UL is committed to promoting and developing standards that support the safety of people, products and locations worldwide. In 2019 UL signed an MOU with CARICOM Regional Organization of Standards and Quality (CROSQ) and are working to enter into similar MOUs with each of the Member Countries of CROSQ, of which The Bahamas is a part. Some objectives regarding the MOU are as follows:

  • Support regional standards development.

  • Support CROSQ and its Members in meeting their efficiency and competitiveness objectives through the process of standardization and the verification of quality.

  • Work together to meet our shared public safety missions.
